Zaman Uyumu Nedir?

Sequence of events

Zaman uyumu ezber değil, olay sırası okuma işidir. Önce ana olayın zamanını bul, sonra yan cümlenin ana olaya göre önce mi, aynı anda mı, sonra mı olduğunu belirle.

Aynı anda

when / while ile iki olay aynı zaman çizgisinde kesişebilir: biri sürerken diğeri olur.

Önce olan

Geçmişte iki olay varsa daha önce olan genellikle Past Perfect ile verilir.

Gelecek yan cümle

when / after / before / until / as soon as gelecek anlam taşısa bile yan cümlede çoğu zaman Present Simple kullanılır.

Altın soru: "Bu eylem diğer eylemden önce mi, aynı anda mı, yoksa sonra mı?" Cevap tense seçimini belirler.

when + olay

When bir olayın olduğu anı işaretler. Eğer bir eylem sürerken kısa bir olay olduysa, süren eylem Past Continuous, kısa olay Past Simple olur.

while + süreç

While çoğu zaman "bir şey olurken" anlamı verir ve arkasından süren eylem gelir. Akademik metinde ayrıca "oysa / -iken" karşıtlığı da kurabilir.

Past Perfect

Before ve after zaten olay sırasını gösterdiği için bazen Past Simple yeterlidir. Ancak özellikle sınav dilinde önce olan eylemi vurgulamak için had + fiilin 3. hâli çok sık görülür.

deadline vs devam

By "o zamana kadar tamamlanmış olacak" fikrini verir. Until ise "o zamana kadar devam edecek" anlamındadır.

Since başlangıç noktası, for süre verir. Olay bugüne kadar sürüyorsa Present Perfect veya Present Perfect Continuous gerekir.

Zaman bağlaçlarından sonra gelecek anlam olsa bile yan cümlede genellikle Present Simple kullanılır. Ana cümle gelecek olabilir.
